I often think of the career of an educator as a landscape of hills, plains, valleys and mountains. There are also streams, rivers, and lakes that many of us drown in as we try to cross the terrain from one educational model to the next. The move to the new Common Core Standards is yet another mountain we must climb. I personally find the climb exhilerating. I am gathering my ropes, my sticky soled shoes, and my backpack while trying to fight back the butterflies of anticipation as I enter my classroom. You see, I am a half-cup full mountain climbing kinda gal.
Opening minds is what we strive to do everyday, why should ours as educators be closed? I am not suggesting that I believe all the new changes are ideal. I am, however, tackling and utilizing the new standards to make positive adjustments in the way that I instruct my students.
The purpose of this blog is to help me share and reflect upon my climb up this mountain called Common Core. I hope my climb will be beneficial to other teachers as we begin this climb together.
